DeLonghi ICK 6000 ice cream maker

In this post I would like to show you the De'Longhi ICK 6000* introduce. It is with about 240 - 300 euros a Ice cream maker with compressor in the middle price segment.

I took a closer look at this self-cooling ice cream maker and would like to share my assessment with you here.

Technical details

This ice cream maker with a compressor and a 230 watt motor offers you a capacity of 1.2 liters, which provides sufficient space to accommodate up to 700 g delicious ice cream to create.

From the Dimensions (42.6 x 32.6 x 24.5 cm), it is appropriately large for a self-cooling ice cream maker and comes with 13,5 kg a decent weight on the kitchen bench.

The special thing about the ICK 6000* is the patented stirring system of two differently shaped scoops. This is to guarantee optimal scraping and mixing of the ice cream during the freezing process and thus a creamy texture.

The ice cream maker comes up with three different functions, namely ice cream preparation, stirring only and cooling only. For this it has a Rotary knob. The transparent lids allows you to easily monitor the freezing process. The removable stainless steel container facilitates the removal of the ice and subsequent cleaning. The container, scoops and lid are even dishwasher safe.

The De'Longhi ICK 6000* is in a stylish silver color available and features non-slip rubber feet for a stable and secure placement on your kitchen countertop.

If you want to use the Machine in action I have found only foreign language videos. I recommend you this one YouTube video in English from De'Longhi or a video in danish from KitchenOne.dk, which offers the identical ICK 5000 demonstrate. The really important facts you get here in my article and the point of the videos is just to get an idea of how to use it. So don't worry if you don't understand the language. The ICK 5000 is as said identical in construction, only in the white finish.

De'Longhi ICK 6000 evaluation

Advantages

• Fast cooling down of the device and the ice mass
• Fast ice cream production due to the compressor technology (30 - 45 minutes)
• Very good consistency and creaminess of the ice cream: the ice cream is often rated as excellent
• Easy operation of the machine: there are three setting options (freezing, stirring, freezing+stirring).
• The workmanship is solid, without sharp edges or unclean parts
• Stainless steel container for maximum food safety and robustness
• Production of different types of ice cream in a row
• Easy cleaning: the parts to be cleaned (stainless steel container, stirrer and lid) are dishwasher safe, but can also be easily washed by hand

Disadvantages

• Some people find the ice machine loud. The volume of the De`Longhi ICK 6000* is, however, considered normal for ice machines with a compressor and is within the usual range (approx. 44 db).
• Some users find it difficult to remove the ice from the container. However, this should not be a problem with a little practice.
• Partly, the weak construction of the stirring arm is criticized.
• The machine has a large footprint and is quite heavy.
• No timer or overload protection function: therefore, you have to set yourself a timer to turn off the machine at the end.
• The instructions were partly found to be unhelpful. However, the machine is very easy to set up in terms of operation.
• In individual cases, cracks in the lid, a defective knob or stirring arm were mentioned after use. However, parts of the De'Longhi ICK 6000 and ICK 5000 are available for purchase as spare parts. Thus, the Stirring arm*, Cover*, Stainless steel container for De`Longhi ICK 6000* and also the Motor* can be purchased individually, which is rather the exception for a modern electrical appliance.

Summary of advantages and disadvantages

The De'Longhi ICK 6000* Ice cream machine with compressor technology is perceived by most customers as fast and easy ice cream production. Per run you get about 700 g of ice cream. This corresponds to about 4 servings and is therefore sufficient for a small to medium household. The self-cooling ice cream maker makes it possible to prepare different types of ice cream one right after the other. The finished ice cream has a good consistency and tastes very delicious. The creaminess is excellent.

It should be noted that the machine is relatively loud and takes up a lot of space. However, this is not unusual for an ice machine with a compressor. The design is kept simple. For example, a timer or overload protection is missing.

Recommendation of the ice cream maker

The De'Longhi ICK 6000* is a solid choice for those who like to make ice cream with a self-cooling ice cream maker. The price-performance ratio is right. The many advantages outweigh the few disadvantages of the machine.
